JanSport® Releases its Original D2 External Frame Pack
Originally introduced in 1972, hippies rejoice as JanSport brings back a well-remembered classic

San Leandro, Calif., (January 20, 2011) - JanSport, the original outdoor gear Brand that equips people globally with quality backpacks, travel gear and collegiate apparel, today unveils the new D2, the ultimate external frame pack, launching Spring 2011.

Introducing a new edition of one of the most beloved JanSport packs, the D2. The original JanSport external frame pack has made a comeback. Loved for its enormous capacity, this pack can comfortably hold everything and the kitchen sink. The freestanding design stands up among internal frame packs thanks to its smart organization and its endlessly adjustable frame fits everyone for any extended backpacking adventure. Tried and true old school with new school innovation baked in, the new D2 is ready to hit the trails.

"During the summer of 1971, I went on a Mt. Rainier climb with our sales reps and came up with the idea to build a bigger external frame pack with more support and better waist suspension," says Skip Yowell, co-founder of JanSport. "Months later a friend and esteemed climber, Ron Fear, asked if he could use the large-size prototype on his expedition to Mt. Dhaulagiri, the seventh highest mountain in the world. The trip was a success, as was the pack, which later went into production as the easier-to-pronounce, D2."
