Since its founding in 1969 by famed mountaineer Lou Whittaker,
Rainier Mountaineering Inc (RMI) has set the industry standard in mountain guiding excellence. RMI leads generations of aspiring climbers to the summit of Mt. Rainier.
The Story
Since 1970, under the guidance of Lou's son Peter, RMI has served as JanSport's on-the-mountain test product testing team. JanSport packs are worn and used in real conditions on Mt. Rainier, providing us with valuable product insight. JanSport's relationship with RMI ensures that all JanSport packs are tough, functional, and comfortable.

The Whittaker Pack series is a direct result of collaboration with Peter Whittaker and thousands of hours of product testing by over 40 guides on Mt. Rainier and around the world.
