Comments about JanSport ENVOY BACKPACK:
I am a college student, and I am on campus from 8 or 9 AM to 5 or 6 PM everyday. I take classes as well as work on campus everyday. During my breaks I do homework or work, so I carry a lot of stuff on a day to day basis. On a normal day, I carry a water bottle and coffee thermos, granola bar for breakfast, lunch, a small snack, assorted pens, headphones, lotion, etc., as well as 2 medium binders, 1-2 large textbooks, a laptop, a tablet, usually a combination of 3-4 notebooks and composition books), lab goggles, and electronic cords.
The pockets in this bag are specifically designed for someone like me who carries lots of things and likes organizations. There is a tablet pocket that fits my galaxy tab 10 with a decent sized case on it (a fold over one, not just a skin). The cords pocket fits my long mac cord and tablet cord. The small pocket in the front holds my snacks and keys easily, and the next one holds a ton of pens, assorted things like lotion and headphones, and a calculator. The phone pocket on the front easily fits my galaxy S4 with a small hardshell case on it. The middle book pockets are large and roomy.
My only complaint, as says the other reviewer, is the lack of padding in the laptop compartment. To solve this problem (because I love the rest of the bag so much) I placed an old, rolled up dishtowel at the bottom of the pocket. Now I feel safe placing it down on the ground, and as I have a 13 inch computer, my laptop fits fine.
The straps are wonderful! They help support the weight of the bag, and they don't rub on my shoulders.
This is a great backpack for a student who carries lots of things, likes organized pockets, and carries technology on a regular basis.

Comments about JanSport ENVOY BACKPACK:
USE: graduate school: ***17" laptop***, cords, several large binders and very heavy binders, 4-7 books at any given time, lunch (& sometimes dinner), water bottle(s), pencils/pens/eraser/pencil aka mini-office box, calculator, makeup and hairbrush, wallet, random other things like umbrella-sweatshirt-etc. A lot of walking demanding a comfortable fit. Also-grocery shopping!
WHATS SO GREAT: Uhm, everything! Fits my 17" laptop with no problem at all (even though it indicates sized for 15"). Weight of pack itself: deceivably lightweight (looks heavier in picture)...and that's a good thing, compact size especially given massive storage capacity, obviously forever-lasting and durable, padded back (fabric between back panel and first interior panel. (Kind of like a NYC apartment - you'd be amazed what you can get in a small space without making a place look cramped!) Well, is GREAT everything except...
NOT SO GREAT: ***ONLY ONE THING***, and this is with regard to the laptop "compartment". If that's not your focus/concern, stop here and buy this terrific product and yet more Jansport perfection. If your priority may be your lap top, here's something to consider. Really wanted a pack JUST LIKE this one - where laptop would slip in to a padded pocket/slip parallel to my back - without going all the way down to the bottom of the pack (here, described in ad as "compartment"), yet still with tons of space for textbooks, binders and spirals that naturally ruin most backpacks. Also didn't want a ginormous backpack. SO----Although well-padded against my back - exactly where I carry my laptop - the computer slides to bottom of pack rather than sliding in to a separate pocket with a bit higher-up bottom than the actual bottom of the backpack. Thus, the laptop is more vulnerable to damage anytime I would put the pack down (e.g. classroom, subway, car, bumping in to walls, etc...) - and that's many times a day. Tried to talk myself in to it - it really is that great - "I'll be careful with it" but I know better than that. Tried out the other pockets in this model and all would definitely fit the 17" (or any other laptop, thick or thin, for that matter). But without pocketed padding I can't figure out a safe way to use it. My 10-year-old Jansport (they mean it when they say these things last forever) has exactly the interior pocket I'm describing, and several other Jansports online this site do have what I'm describing (so definitely try out a few if one is not quite right). Will watch for other colors in a couple other models and - gasp - be patient. But that's OK, because the only reason I wanted a new pack was for a change of pace...my current 10 year old, practically EVERY day use is still in fabulous condition. Will also watch for other alternatives to protect the laptop and re-purchase this backpack if I can figure out how to make it work. AND!!! CALL JANSPORT CUSTOMER SERVICE DIRECTLY - they have been WONDERFUL with helping me to find what is as close to possible as what I'm looking for (from style, needs and even understanding me being picky about color and price range). THANK YOU JANSPORT - AS ALWAYS, FAB PRODUCTS.
