I'm in love with this backpack! It is cute and functional! Adjusting the straps on the side opens it up a bit more creating more space. Lots of pockets and easy to maintain optimal organization.

        Comments about JanSport HATCHET:

Lemme just start this off by saying that I was debating over several Jansport backpacks, this one included, along with the Envoy and the Locklyn. I love the design of all three but came to a decision with this one, the Hatchet. And I do not regret my decision at all. It arrived exactly 28 hours after I ordered it! And when it arrived, I was in love with it immediately. I looked through all pockets and checked all zippers and they all worked. It has a good amount of pockets, not too much but also not too little, it was exactly what I wanted. I had a pocket for each specific thing. I am going to be carrying this backpack with me around campus and I am confident that it will last a very long time. Also lemme just say that the main pocket may not seem a bit roomy but if you loosen the straps (on the side, that makes the backpack look slimmer) it can get pretty roomy. There are many storage compartments in the main pocket for your laptop/tablet/keys/phone/pen/pencil and also a hole for your earphones or hydration hose. One last thing, I am a very short girl (5'0) and I thought I'd look like I'd be drowning in this backpack but it actually doesn't look too bad! It covers my entire back and I don't mind at all. So good luck with figuring out which one of these magnificent backpacks you want and you will be happy with whichever one you choose!

          Comments about JanSport HATCHET:

I love this pack. My 15" Vaio and Surface fit in their own respective slots. The organizer is great for all the odds and ends you'll need, like pens, calculator, notepads, etc. Even has a small carabiner inside. The various zipper pockets aren't huge, but offer plenty of storage for your odds and ends. There is a larger front pocket for your charger and mouse. The standard water bottle pockets are there, of course.

The straps and back are minimally padded, but, to be honest, this isn't an issue. In fact, I would argue that it may be positive as it keeps the bulk down. Certainly, the bag is plenty comfy as it is. The compact nature of this bag design also does an excellent job of keep everything close to your back, which adds more comfort to overall wearability, function, and balance.

The only real complaints I have about this bag few. The biggest complaint is the storage capacity of the main chamber. A few books fit just fine, and, in fact, the chambers shape keeps everything sitting nicely upright and not falling over to the bottom of the pack where they get dog-eared and mangled. Anything beyond this, though, like a couple of books plus a binder, or a coat, and you will find yourself stretched for space. I might have liked a bit more room. The positive spin to this, however, is that you can never overload it with too much stuff so that you are killing your back and what not.

Other complaints include the pack not being waterproof (but it's also well under $100), and the fact that the material, while seemingly durable, is a bit thin. Not paper thin, but certainly not as heavy as many other bags I've had over the years.
