How To Overcome Loneliness With Self Care

Mandy Carr Apr 17, 2023

Loneliness is a strange feeling. You can be standing in a room full of people and still feel lonely.

It’s something most people will experience at some point in their lives. Whether you’ve lost a loved one or moved somewhere you don’t know anyone, if you’ve been unfollowed on social media or have fallen out with a friend. You may feel isolated due to health issues or social anxiety. Whatever you’re going through, it’s important to remember, you’re not alone. There are things that you can do to lessen those feelings of isolation and loneliness. And, the best way to overcome loneliness is to focus on your self-care.

Journaling

Journaling is one of the best ways to focus on yourself. Writing about your feelings and what made you feel that way is a great way to not only understand your feelings better but also process them. Maybe you don’t want to write down everything, but writing about what happened to you is a great way to gain some perspective and insight. And even come up with a plan of action too.

You can journal about anything you want, not just your feelings or your day. For example, having a gratitude journal is a great way to focus in on the good things in your life and training your mind to go to that rather than the things you may feel you lack. It’s a practice and a little each day can go a long way. Journaling can also be a great way to practice daily affirmations too to help support a more positive mindset. Practicing being present is another great way to use your journal. Write about the things you see, the sounds, and the smells — when you are present, in the moment, so that all other noise is blocked out.

If you’re feeling creative, you could even journal poetry or short stories to get your imagination flowing.

Go on a Solo Road Trip

It may sound counter intuitive to overcome loneliness by going out into the world alone, but in actual fact traveling solo is one of the most valuable and important things you can do. Aside from the fact you won’t have someone else dictating the trip itinerary, learning to enjoy your own company does wonders for your mental health. While it may push you out of your comfort zone a little, it forges a strong sense of independence and confidence, not to mention freedom and adventure.

You can choose a destination nearby or farther away, depending on how far you are willing or able to drive. You can get out to the country and go for peaceful walks, drive to the beach and watch the waves or go to a city of historical significance. Wherever you choose, it gets you out of town and away from your day-to-day.

The Embroidered Blossom Hydrangea Bundle is the perfect set for your journey. With its shoulder straps and pop-up handle, the Driver 8 is ideal for traveling. The Cinch Caddy is great for toiletries, and the Half Pint is perfect for day adventuring. Oh and they all match too. With all three, you’ll be ready for wherever your travels take you.

Pamper Yourself

Pampering yourself by giving yourself a manicure, using a face mask, or taking a bubble bath are great ways to refocus and reset your mind. Pampering yourself doesn’t have to be about beauty, though. It can also be about walking in a beautiful place, watching the sunset or sunrise on your own or with a loved one. You could also take a nice nap to recharge. It’s all about what’s going to make you feel your best. So splurge on that pizza you love. You can even use moon phases to help with your self-care routine.

Watch Your Favorite TV Show

It may sound simple but watching your favorite TV show can be a little like catching up with old friends. There’s a comfort in watching episodes you’ve seen before. You can get ready for your Stranger Things adventure with the Field Pack Demogorgon Hunter bag. Whatever your comfort show is, it’s an excellent way to give you a pick-me-up. You won’t feel as lonely when you’re engaging with your favorite characters, whether you’re laughing or crying with them.

Find a Hobby

Keeping busy is a great way to keep loneliness away. You can do this by getting a hobby. Learning a new skill will keep your mind active. Try playing an instrument, drawing, or painting. You can paint pretty florals like the Mahalo Metaverse. Cooking is also a great skill to learn and can be very creative when trying different recipes. Pick a family recipe or try making something you’ve never had before.

If you’re looking for a more soothing hobby, knitting or crocheting are great options, plus you can start making your holiday gifts! Or maybe cleaning is your thing. It can be a great stress reliever. And your place will be nice and clean when you’re done.

Dealing with loneliness can take active work to come back to a good feeling of being connected within yourself and with others. Take some time to reassess what makes you feel good and start to build those things into your daily lifestyle. And don’t be scared to reach out to a loved one for help and support. You don’t have to go through this alone.
